Wyndham - an historic community breaking history
WA's first CGDN website celebrations
Tiny Wyndham, a small remote community and the top town of the West, celebrated the launch of two community initiatives – the re-opening of the Telecentre and their own community web site at www.wyndham.wa.au. Carol Martin, MLA and Member for Kimberley officiated at the ceremony, held at Wyndham Telecentre 3pm Friday, 1st December. "This is an historic community, breaking history even today, it is a wonderful occasion" said Mrs Martin.
Wyndham has been an important leader in the .au Community Domains project. They were a test site for auCD's "Site in a Box" a tool that allows communities to manage a web site without having access to high end web development skills.
"This tool is perfect for communities like ours, where skills come and go, many community groups struggle to retain the skills required to manage their services, so it is a concern when a whole community web site is implemented. That is what makes the Site in a Box concept so great for a community like ours, anyone can manage their part of the site and it isn't up to just one organisation or person to maintain the site", said Natika Hawes-Wright, Wyndham Telecentre Co-ordinator
